1. What type of paint do you use in your paintings?
ans: I use oil paint for my paintings on canvas. I also like to paint in watercolor on paper, but do not have any on the website at the moment.
2. Do you use any other mediums in your artwork?
ans: Yes, I use pastel, on paper, which I can have printed onto canvas or paper. In fact, I offer one pastel drawing of pears on my website now.
3. Do you use linseed oil, or extenders in your oil paintings?
ans: Infrequently- I generally use only turpentine to thin my paint.
4. Do you paint on a canvas with a colored ground, or a blank white canvas?
ans: I paint with both, depending on the look I want. I usually paint a ground on my canvas first. If not, I block out areas of my painting with light washed after I have sketched the basic scene onto the canvas.
5. Do you draw a detailed sketch before you start you painting, either on paper or on the canvas?
ans: I often draw some sketch ideas in a sketchbook before I start, just to get the composition, then I like to go right to the canvas. I most often sketch my drawing right onto the canvas with a small brush, as it gives the painting the loose feeling that like. If I have something more detailed to paint, such as a house, I will do a more detailed sketch in charcoal on the canvas before applying paint.
6. Where do you get your painting ideas, and do you paint often on location?
ans: I like to paint on location when time and weather permit, even it it is to get the painting started. I then take photographs and finish it in my studio. I get many of my ideas from traveling, and like to go to locations for vacation that inspire me to paint. However, some of my favorite paintings have been done on location, near my home. In fact, the painting 'Cherry Blossoms', was done across the street in my neighbor's backyard!
